I am trying... What should I do?

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

Pregnancy happens when sperm travels from the vagina via the cervix and the uterus to the fallopian tube and combines with an egg to form an embryo. (For details please see my blog on Conception )

If you are trying to conceive, you need to ensure that you have sex at or just before you ovulate (release egg). Since it is stressful to plan this event and ovulation can be unpredictable, a good practice to follow is to have relations every 2 to 3 days. Since sperms survive for at least this length of time, this frequency is enough to ensure the presence of sperms at the time of ovulation. It is advisable not to resort to ovulation kits or mobile applications as they are unreliable and unnecessarily increase stress.

It is also recommended that you follow a healthy lifestyle, maintain a healthy body weight and avoid smoking and cut down or stop drinking. Also a prenatal vitamin - Folic acid is also recommended in the daily dose of 400 mcg.

In case you have any pre-existing medical illnesses, have had abdominal/gynaecological surgeries in the past or are unsure/confused, do consider contacting a fertility specialist for advise and timely assistance.
